Good to know before replacing the CAN repeater by the CAN-CR repeater

This article outlines important aspects to consider when replacing a CANrepeater with a CAN‑CR device.

APPLICABLE PRODUCTS (Mandatory)

  • CANrepeater (1.01.0063.xxx or 1.01.0064.xxx)
  • CAN-CR1xx, CAN-CR2xx, CAN-CR3xx
  • CAN/FD-Repeater Standard (1.01.0211.20000)

 

POSSIBLE CAUSES / ANSWER 

Please consider the following differences when performing a replacement:
 

Connector Types
  • CAN-Repeater and CAN-CR100 have screw terminals
  • CAN-CR200 has DSub9 connectors.
  • CAN/FD Repeater standard has Push-in connector
Termination Resistors
  • CAN-Repeater 1.01.0063.xxx/1.01.0064.xxx:
    Internal termination resistors can be enabled or disabled via solder jumpers
     
  • CAN-CR200:
    Internal termination resistors can be configured using DIP switches
  • CAN-CR100:
    Internal termination resistors cannot be changed after purchase.
    Devices are ordered with or without internal termination (for both CAN channels).
     
  • CAN/FD Repeater Standard
    Internal termination resistors can be configured using DIP switches

CAN Bus Types

  • CANrepeater 1.01.0064.44000: 
    Two CAN High Speed
     
  • CANrepeater 1.01.0064.46000: 
    CAN High Speed & CAN Low Speed (converter functionality).
     
  • CAN-CR devices
    Support CAN High-Speed only.
    Do not support CAN Low-Speed
     
  • CAN/FD Repeater Standard
    CAN High-Speed & CAN-FD.
  • FRC-EP supports CAN Low-Speed
