How to Update FLB320A Modem's Firmware (Ewon Flexy extension card - 4G Europe)

In this article you can find a step-by-step guide to upgrade the firmware of the FLB320A Ewon Flexy extension card - 4G Europe.

We recommend performing an update if you experience problems during periods of low signal quality, or if the modem becomes unresponsive and the Flexy requires a reboot to resume normal operation.

 

APPLICABLE PRODUCTS 

FLB320A Ewon Flexy extension card - 4G Europe

Telit , MODEL: LE910C4-EU , VER: M0F.670010 (how to check this see instructions below)

 

PRE-REQUISITES 

Flexy Firmware 14.9 and lower

Flexy Firmware 15.01s1 and higher (different update Files)

The update of this modem firmware is done via FTP or via USB Stick/SD card.

To perform this procedure via FTP, it is mandatory to have a user with FTP server access rights (Ex : adm user) on the Flexy and FTP protocol enabled.   • Open Flexy´s configuration web page and browse to DIAGNOSTICS > SYSTEM INFO >INFO to find the modem´s current firmware version.

It should show the Parameter ModemExtInfo (Modem extended Information) : 

[USB] MFR: Telit , MODEL: LE910C4-EU , VER: M0F.670010  --> this means the modem can be update by going through this guide.

 

CHECK MODEM FWR SUBVERSION

The Modem Firmware , VER: M0F.670010 has two subversions that should be checked to find out witch update should be applied.

To check the subversion, you need to

  • Enable the AT logs :

  • Set the Modem Init String to AT#SWPKGV (save the old init String somewhere)

  • Reset the modem (Modem Config webpage) or reboot the Ewon.

  • You should get something like that but with your Modem FW  :

M0F.670010.P0F.671803 or M0F.670010.P0F.671804

After you check your Version and Sub Version, reset the old init String and set the log's back to normal.

 

DOWNLOAD THE LATEST FIRMWARE VERSION OF THE MODEM EXTENSION CARD

 

  • In a browser, go to the Modem Webpage

    Ewon Flexy extension card - 4G Europe > Support tab > open the Firmware section for the newest Modem Firmware Files.


     

  • If you have a Flexy with firmware 14.9 or lower use these Files:
M0F.670010.P0F.671803 to M0F.670013 for Flexy running 14.9 and <
 ewonfwr.edf
M0F.670010.P0F.671804 to M0F.670013 for Flexy running 14.9 and <
 ewonfwr.edf
  • If you have a Flexy with firmware 15.x or higher use these Files:
M0F.670010.P0F.671803 to M0F.670013 for Flexy running 15.0s1 and > 
 ewonfwr.edfs
M0F.670010.P0F.671804 to M0F.670013 for Flexy running 15.0s1 and >
 ewonfwr.edfs
  • Modem updates don´t allow a direct jump to a specific version, it must be updated consecutively.
  • Download the right firmware and subversion of it and extract the file "ewonfwr.edf" or "ewonfwr.edfs" (depending on the Firmware currently running in your Flexy)

 

UPDATE: COPYING THE FILE TO THE FLEXY VIA FTP
 

 
  • Open an FTP application (for this example WIN SCP is used).
  • Login to the Flexy device with a USER that has FTP access rights (like adm typically please check the User settings)

Note: If you have FW 15 or higher you might need to unblock FTP on the LAN or VPN (Talk2m) side: How to block all the unused Ewon Flexy/Cosy131/Cosy+ services on the LAN, WAN and/or VPN interface – HMS Support Portal

  • Once connected, on the left panel navigate to the firmware file we downloaded earlier.

  • If asked to overwrite the existing file, click 'YES'.
  • Once the file has been transferred, close the FTP application.
  • The USR led will switch colors while the upgrade is being done (This phase can take from 5 to 15 minutes to finish).
  • After the upgrade is finished, the Flexy will automatically reboot. (do not reboot it yourself leave it longer)
  • Make sure the firmware was updated by going to DIAGNOSTICS > SYSTEM INFO >INFO (You may need to refresh the browser page). (See Chapter CHECK FOR THE ACTUAL FIRMWARE VERSION)

It should update from M0F.670010 to M0F. 670013
