This note applies to the following models with the –A option:
508TX, 516TX, 524TX, 508FX2, 509FX, 517FX, 526FX2, 508FXE2, 509FXE, 517FXE, 526FXE2
Restoring factory defaults has these effects (on a –A unit):
Incoming untagged packets to all ports are discarded.
The MAC address, model number, and firmware version are protected settings. These settings are unaffected by restoring factory defaults. Restoring defaults To restore defaults, connect to the COM port of the switch, open a terminal program and press ESC to access the login prompt. When prompted, enter the username and password. For additional connection information, review the separate technote, Accessing the console on a 500 series switch. Type system to enter the system menu then type restore to restore the switch defaults. See the sample session below:
Note: A power cycle is required after the command has completed.
The user password feature is available in firmware version 8.09 and subsequent.
For security reasons forgotten passwords can only be reset to factory defaults with the physical return of the switch to N-TRON or to an authorized N-TRON distributor.
The user password feature is optional and if used allows the user to create a password of 4 to 8 characters, including alphanumeric and special characters (20 hex through 7e hex). Restore defaults restores the password to "admin", but note that if power has been cycled since a successful login one cannot log in to restore defaults without knowing the password.
To change the password, connect to the COM port of the switch and when prompted, enter the default username and password. Type system to enter the system menu then type upwd to change the password.
Note: Power cycle is required when completed.
Note that when a user password is defined, the password prompt will ask “Enter User Password” instead of “Enter Password”:
