Why does renaming the TAP Adapter of eCatcher not work?
Error: The name of the Tap-Adapter already exists please choose a different Name.
Appears when trying to rename the Tap Adapter to the Name to "Talk2m-eCatcher" to connect it to eCatcher - even so there are no other Tap-Adapters using that name.
Please check first:
- check the Network Connections, if there is an existing Tap Adapter named "Talk2m-eCatcher". You can find that by going to Network and Internet Settings> Change adapter options.
- Please check in the Device manager if you can find one there.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
In some cases the TAP adapter name "Talk2m-eCatcher" is still stored somewhere in a key in the Windows Registry.
Please Read the following link on How to access the Windows Registry and tips on how to use it:
How to delete regIstry keys Windows 11 - UMA Technology (external Link not affiliated with HMS, take care)
1. First thing to check in the registry is to search for "Talk2m-eCatcher" in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Network\
If you find one entry, delete the parent node (with the Big ID -> See here:)
2. If you do not find any "Talk2m-eCatcher" values or the problem persists, then it is probably because there is one entry in the protected key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\NetworkSetup2.
If you click this key, you'll get an error message that the access is denied. This also explains why there is no output when you search for the value "Talk2m-eCatcher" in the whole registry.
One method to access this registry is to open the "regedit" using this "Advanced Run tool" available on https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/advanced_run.html. (external Link not affiliated with HMS take care)
Actually this tool allows you to open the regedit with the "TrustedInstaller" User.
See:
Once it is open you can search for "Talk2m-eCatcher" and delete the parent node like for the First Step.
