This private residential project consists of three separate buildings, all buildings devices interconnected through one unified KNX automation system.
Dedicated Intesis KNX gateways were installed for each air-conditioning unit. Each Mitsubishi Heavy Industries indoor unit was connected to an INKNXMHI001R000 gateway, while the Mitsubishi Electric unit was integrated using an INKNXMIT001I000 gateway. These gateways translate the manufacturers' proprietary AC communication protocols into KNX, enabling all units to be integrated within the same KNX group address structure and control logic used throughout the residence.
Each gateway provides bidirectional communication between a single AC unit and the KNX system, allowing KNX commands to control ON/OFF operation, operating mode, temperature setpoint and fan speed, while returning real-time status information to KNX for monitoring and feedback.
This private residential project, which won the Special KNX Award 2026, consists of three separate buildings: the main residence, guest house, and garage/SPA, all of them interconnected through one unified KNX automation system. KNX provides the common control layer for lighting, shading, heating/cooling, ventilation, access control and other building functions.
As part of the HVAC integration, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Electric air-conditioning units, each using its own proprietary control interface, also had to become part of the same KNX environment. Each AC unit needed reliable bidirectional integration so that KNX could control its operation and receive its actual operating status, rather than relying on one-way or infrared-based control. The goal was to give residents one reliable and consistent system for room control, visualization, scenes and automation across all three buildings, without using separate manufacturer-specific controls.
Intesis offers dedicated KNX gateways for MHI and Mitsubishi Electric, allowing the same integration approach to be used for both brands. This avoided custom protocol development and reduced commissioning risk.
Mantas Jasiulis - KNX / Building Automation Engineer
For both Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Electric HVAC systems, Intesis supplies brand-specific KNX gateways that support a common integration methodology. This approach eliminates the need for custom protocol implementation, reduces commissioning risk, and ensures a standardized KNX interface with full bidirectional control and real-time status feedback capability.
