Samsung HVAC integration in apremium village in Chuncheon

A unified smart home experience

The project included a fully integrated, scalable automation solution across all 32 residential units. The objective was to combine deluxe JUNG devices within a KNX-based infrastructure for lighting control, room climate management, solar shading, and door communication, while also integrating the PABX system and an IoT-based concierge and management service and a smart app-based monitoring and control system. The desired outcome was to provide residents with a flexible, reliable, and intuitive control environment, supported by a robust integration architecture that could be effectively replicated throughout the entire development.

Technical solution using Intesis

JUNG Korea supplied the KNX-based solution and selected Intesis gateways to connect the HVAC and ventilation systems into the KNX installation. The implementation included the integration of Samsung VRF into KNX, as well as the Modbus to KNX integration for Samsung energy recovery ventilation systems.

With Intesis as the integration layer, air conditioners and ventilation equipment could be handled from the same KNX environment used for the other smart home functions, reducing the need for custom development, and ensuring that ventilation could be managed with the same level of control and consistency as the rest of the building systems

Why Intesis was chosen

The project required a solution that could connect the KNX ecosystem with Samsung HVAC equipment without additional integration work or custom development. For the JUNG engineering team, Intesis was the natural choice, as its gateway portfolio supported the required protocols to integrate both the Samsung AC units and the energy recovery ventilators (ERV) into the KNX installation through a consistent approach.

• The centralized IN770AIR00SO000 gateways were particularly well suited to the project, as each gateway can provide individual control of up to 16 indoor units within a villa. This centralized architecture reduced the number of gateways required, helping to simplify the installation while reducing installation time and costs. The IN701KNX1000000 gateways complemented the solution by connecting the Samsung Modbus interfaces installed on the ERV units to the KNX installation.

JUNG’s extensive experience with the Intesis product range was another important factor. The team was already familiar with the gateways and their straightforward configuration, allowing the configuration and commissioning to be carried out efficiently and completed without any issues
