AC integration into KNX at luxury villas

The Al Mouj Alaya deluxe villas were designed by the developer Al Mouj Muscat as an exclusive complex of individual residences looking for premium comfort, advanced technology, and modern automation. Each one of them was equipped with an LG VRF system, and to offer an elevated total control experience for the homeowners, the entire HVAC system on each villa operates through a KNX-based smart home environment, while retaining the existing LG centralized controller.

The project needed a dependable, field-proven gateway—one capable of interface KNX and LG VRF indoor units without forcing any changes to the AC manufacturer’s centralized control ecosystem.

To address this need, Mecamac (Cube LLC) designed a solution using the 1:1 Intesis gateways enabling monitoring and control of LG AC units from the KNX installation.

Technical Solution Using Intesis

With over 250 Intesis INKNXLGE001R000 gateways installed across the residential complex, the project sets a benchmark for luxury living and intelligent control. Residents enjoy the flexibility of KNX automation combined with LG’s centralized controller and the ABB RoomTouch® 4'' KNX thermostats.

The integration team implemented a complete KNX home automation system, including HVAC control. For AC integration, LG VRF indoor units were connected using the Intesis INKNXLGE001R000 gateway, installed at each indoor FCU unit, ensuring that the LG centralized controller remained fully functional.

The Intesis gateway translates LG’s indoor-unit protocol directly into KNX objects, allowing easy mapping within ETS and smooth interaction with ABB RoomTouch® 4'' touch panels.
