An internationally accredited four-day programme covering PROFIBUS installation, network technology, troubleshooting, maintenance, and advanced PROFIBUS DP network analysis.
Who should attend the course?
This combined 4-day course is designed for anyone working with PROFIBUS at a technical level, including designers, commissioning engineers, maintenance technicians, installers, and automation specialists.
It provides a complete progression from the essential principles of PROFIBUS to the advanced skills required to analyse, commission, and fault-find PROFIBUS networks using professional diagnostic tools.
The course provides:
- A comprehensive understanding of PROFIBUS DP network operation—from fundamentals to advanced behaviour.
- Best practices for installation, commissioning, health-checking, troubleshooting, and live fault-finding.
- Practical experience using PROFIBUS analyzers, oscilloscopes, and class-2 masters.
- The full prerequisites and examinations for internationally accredited qualifications as Certified PROFIBUS Engineer.
Prerequisites:
No prior PROFIBUS qualifications are required. The Installer and Troubleshooting & Maintenance modules are covered in the first two days and fully prepare attendees for the advanced Engineer content delivered on the final days.
What will I learn on the course?
Days 1–2: Installer + Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Basic PROFIBUS DP technology, station types, addressing, configuration and start-up
- EMC, interference pickup, cable routing and earthing, earth potential issues and their avoidance
- Transmission-line reflections, correct termination, network layout limitations
- Wiring practice, modern cable and connector systems, and common installation pitfalls
- Use of repeaters, couplers, link modules, and fibre-optic segments
- Maintenance and commissioning considerations
- Installation testing and use of PROFIBUS test tools
- Network configuration and GSD file handling
- Use of PROFIBUS analyzers for audits and qualification checks
- Practical hands-on troubleshooting with analyzers
Days 3–4: Certified PROFIBUS Engineer
- Detailed PROFIBUS DP network operation and telegram structure
- Capture and interpretation of PROFIBUS telegrams using a high-speed analyzer
- Diagnosis and localisation of physical and logical faults
- Identification of failed devices, wiring and layout faults, configuration errors
- Use of the oscilloscope to identify EMI and reflection-related issues
- Use and benefits of a class-2 master
- Performing a complete network health check
- Practical examples of live network faults and their resolution
