How to setup a CUB5V panel meter for the first time

17 Jul 2025

PLEASE NOTE:

When setting up the CUB5V there is an input signal range jumper under the rear cover that will need to be set for your application's VDC input level.  See page 3 of CUB5V product manual. Display scaling is also done via the front keypad.

Direct power connections to the CUB4V unit require a 12 or 24 VDC power source.  If all you have available is standard 120 VAC, an optional rear mount power supply can be purchased.  Red Lion part numbers.

IN THIS ARTICLE

  • Wiring of CUB5V panel meter.
  • Optional program lockout function.
  • Example unit scaling procedure.
  • Style applied input scaling method.

To complete the setup of a CUB5V unit proceed as below.

  1. First, if this application was using an input signal less than 20Vdc. Remove the rear cover of the CUB5V unit and set the input range jumper to the 2 Vdc position. Reference CUB5V product manual document page 3 for details.
  2. Connect the signal + wire to the input terminal of the CUB5V unit.
  3. Connect the signal – wire to the common terminal of the CUB5V unit.
  4. Connect your power supply V+ wire to the +9-28 Vdc terminal of the CUB5V unit.

Optional program lockout function

There is a program disable mode available in the CUB5V unit. This can be programmed by entering menu 1-INP, under parameter USR IN, and set as PLOC function. Then add a jumper across rear terminals USR COM and USR to activate. This is optional if a program disable feature is desired.

Example unit input scaling procedure

End user has a transducer with a 0-10 Vdc output and wants the display scaled to read PSI.  Pressure range of the transducer is 0-1000 PSI.

The CUB5V scales the input via firmware settings. Please see Page 7 of the CUB5V product manual.

Given the above example, you would program Menu 1-INPUT as follows.

  • RANGE 20 U
  • DECPT  0
  • OFSET  0
  • FILTR    1
  • BAND  10
  • STYLE  KEY
  • INP1   0.00
  • DSP1   0
  • INP2   10.00
  • DSP2   1000

The above example was scaled using the STYLE KEY method. The end user knows the input signal type as well as the transducer range.  If the signal type is known but not the range of the transducer.  The CUB5V can be scaled using the active input signal level and then scaled to a known reference value using the STYLE APLY method. Please see page 7 of the CUB5V product manual.
