How to covert from a legacy CUB4I unit to the current CUB5I

06 Jun 2025

PLEASE NOTE:

When converting from the legacy CUB4I unit to the current CUB5I there is a input signal range jumper under the rear cover that will need to be set for your application mA input level. Display scaling is also done via the front keypad not with scale potentiometers.

This article will discuss the conversion of legacy CUB4I units to the current CUB5I model.

APPLICABLE PRODUCTS

CUB4CI000, CUB4I020, CUB5IB00, CUB5IR00

PRE-REQUISITES

IN THIS ARTICLE

  • Wiring conversion from a legacy CUB4I to CUB5I panel meter.
  • Optional program lockout function.
  • Unit input scaling example.
  • Style applied input scaling method

To complete the conversion of the legacy CUB4I unit to current CUB5I units proceed as below.

  1. First if this application was using an input signal greater than 20 mA. Remove the rear cover of the CUB5I unit and set the input range jumper to the 200mA position. See CUB5I product manual document page 3 for details.
  2. Connect the signal + wire to the input + terminal of the CUB5I unit.
  3. Connect the signal – wire to the common terminal of the CUB5I unit.
  4. Connect your power supply Vdc+ wire to the +9-28 Vdc terminal of the CUB5 unit.
  5. Connect your power supply Vdc- to the PWR COM terminal of the CUB5 unit.

Optional

When USR and USR COM terminals are jumped together. A program lockout function can be activated. When removed the unit is in normal Program mode. This can be setup by programming, In Menu 1-INP, USR IN function, set to the PLOC function.  This is optional if a program disable feature is desired.

Example unit input scaling procedure

End user has a transducer with a 4-20 mA output and wants the display scale to read PSI.  Pressure range of the transducer is 0-1000 PSI.

Unlike the legacy CUB4I unit the CUB5I scales the input via firmware settings. Please see Page 7 of the CUB5I product manual.  Menu 1-INP

Given the above example you would program as follows.

  • RANGE 0.02A
  • DECPT  0
  • OFSET  0
  • FILTR    1
  • BAND  10
  • STYLE  KEY
  • INP1   4.000
  • DSP1   0
  • INP2   20.000
  • DSP2   1000

The above example was scaled using the STYLE KEY method. The end user knows the input signal type as well as the transducer range.  If the signal type is known but not the range of the transducer.  The CUB5I can be scaled using the active input signal level and then scaled to a known reference value using the STYLE APLY method. Please see page 7 of the CUB5I product manual.
