To gain better control over energy usage and support its sustainability goals, Limagrain Ingredients modernized its energy monitoring approach using Ewon Flexy and i4connected, transforming raw energy data into actionable insights across the site.
At its production site in Weert (The Netherlands), Limagrain Ingredients operates a fully integrated industrial process, from raw material storage to finished product packaging. Faced with rising energy costs and stricter sustainability regulations, the company needed a reliable way to monitor and optimize its energy consumption. To do so, Limagrain Ingredients partnered with HMS Networks to relaunch and modernize its energy monitoring strategy.
To gain better control over energy usage and support its sustainability goals, Limagrain Ingredients modernized its energy monitoring approach using Ewon Flexy and i4connected, transforming raw energy data into actionable insights across the site.
Limagrain Ingredients set out to revive an energy monitoring initiative launched more than 20 years ago but never fully implemented. The existing setup was outdated and provided only partial, unreliable visibility into energy usage across the site.
At the same time, new legislation required a 2% annual reduction in energy consumption. Meeting this target meant moving beyond global consumption figures and gaining accurate insight into energy use per unit of production.
The project was further complicated by a brownfield environment combining legacy meters and cabling with modern PLCs. Limagrain Ingredients wanted a flexible solution capable of integrating both old and new equipment, while reusing existing infrastructure and remaining manageable in the long term.
Limagrain Ingredients deployed Ewon Flexy together with i4connected. Ewon Flexy collects data from electricity, gas, water, and steam meters and provides secure remote access, while i4connected centralizes process and energy data in an ISO 50001-certified energy monitoring system.
The solution enables secure central data storage with a limited number of internet connections, local data pre-processing for efficiency, and structured user management through individual dashboard logins. By combining energy and production data from PLCs, Limagrain Ingredients can accurately calculate energy consumption per production output.
The project has already delivered tangible results. Limagrain Ingredients successfully reused almost all existing meters and cabling, minimizing installation effort and cost. The site now benefits from a clear and reliable overview of its energy consumption across utilities.
By linking energy usage to production volumes, the company has established a solid foundation to meet regulatory targets and improve energy efficiency. Next steps include delivering live insights to operators, monitoring energy consumption per production run, and automating remaining manual data inputs. The project has also inspired other Limagrain Ingredients sites to explore similar initiatives.
