Meet Darian Slywka, HMS Networks Channel Sales Manager

As the Channel Sales Manager for HMS Industrial Networks, Darian Slywka helps provide the resources to enable the channel sales team to be successful with their customers and partners. He supports the team with his energetic personality, background in technology, and excitement by the ever-changing landscape of industrial automation and connectivity.


Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in Southern Michigan within the suburbs of Detriot. I come from a long line of automotive engineers.


What path did your career take up to your position as Channel Sales Manager?

My focus for many years was water and wastewater sales and operations within critical infrastructure. Industrial communication is a natural progression from this vertical market. Interestingly, I spent some years as a customer using eWON solutions and championing secure remote access. At some point, management at eWON offered a position to help drive sales growth into the Western region. With the acquisition of eWON by HMS, I then migrated over to HMS managing Channel Partners within the Western U.S. and Canada. More recently, I become the Channel Sales Manager, for North America.


What does HMS mean to you?

HMS is a group of passionate individuals all aiming towards the same goal, connecting industrial automation devices. The culture is fast-paced, the future looks exciting, and our solutions really are solving real-world customer challenges.


What is your favorite part about your position at HMS?

My favorite part of this position is engaging with individuals from around North America. Whether they are controls engineers or perhaps C level executives, the friendships and professional networks established throughout the years have been rewarding.


How would you describe the atmosphere at HMS Industrial Networks?

The atmosphere is exciting, fast-paced and changes regularly. We are in a growth and acquisitions cycle, which affords an ever-changing landscape as well as new opportunities. I am fortunate to be part of this organization.


How do you judge at the end of the day, if it was a good day and you did your job well?

Often, most sales folks don't have an end to the day. When urgent requests are addressed, strategy and plans are established for the future, and there is forward momentum on projects, that would be a good day. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have great sales growth!


What do you like to do outside of work?

With the little free time I have, I am a motorcycle enthusiast, avid outdoors-man enjoying hiking and camping as well as mountain bike rider.


What trends are you seeing currently in Industrial Communication?

The most exciting trend is leveraging the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to add value and solve customer challenges combining physical hardware with cloud and internet based solutions. All indicators suggest this will only continue in the future.


What is your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is raising my son and daughter. If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Surf and Turf of course, in a great seafood restaurant right off Highway 101 on the coast of California. Ask me and I'll share the name!


Thank you Darian for your time. We have one last question for you, what is one project you are excited about this year?

There are numerous projects being developed by our sales team. However, I am especially interested in a customer project involving the Flexy and one of our cloud service providers. The customer is a machine builder currently deploying our Flexy IIoT gateway solution leveraging the Datamailbox API to securely push data to a cloud-based data management platform.
