Solution Overview:
The Anybus Communicator can be configured to communicate with the ABB ECA series of process controllers using COMLI (COMmunication LInk) or MODBUS RTU. This application note only describes how to use COMLI. This enables connectivity with the networking protocols supported by the Anybus Communicator.

Solution Brief:
The ABB ECA series of process controllers are available with both RS-232 and RS-485 communication interface. This application note describes how to use the RS-232 interface.

Configure the ABB ECA serial communication parameters manually as shown below:
Baud rate = 9600
Data bits = 8
Parity = Odd
Physical standard = RS232
Stop bits = 1
Message delimiter = 1

It is setup as a master-slave protocol. The data output from the ABB ECA, is received by the Anybus Communicator in the same way that how it was sent.

It is not possible to use the RS-232 interface to do a multi-drop installation, since this is only a point-to-point connection. To be able to do a multi-drop installation it is necessary to connect the Anybus Communicator to the process controller using RS-485.
This application note describes how to setup a configuration writing and reading a parameter from the process controller. This document is available from HMS with sample configuration files for Profibus reading several parameters. Also available is the manual for ECA process controllers as well as the system description for COMLI.
